Elm Grove Primary School is an inclusive, friendly, happy and successful school that sets out to make learning fun, active and challenging for its pupils. We are always seeking ways to learn and improve the standards of educational provision we offer our pupils. Our school is unique in its composition and design, and we put children at the very centre of all we do. We are never complacent and are always seeking ways to learn and improve the standards of educational provision we offer our pupils. We actively encourage all to learn, reflect and question, within a learning environment that is calm and well-structured, where pupils feel safe, confident and happy.
We believe that learning should be fun, active and challenging. Our core values of responsibility, resilience and excellence underpin everything we do. At our last Ofsted in 2024, we were awarded the status of being a good school. Our Ofsted report stated 'This is a nurturing school where every child is known and nurtured. Many staff, parents and pupils say that the school is ‘like one big family’. As one parent reported to inspectors, ‘It’s a happy place where staff really care about each individual.’ Inspectors found this to be the case.' The staff are an extremely dedicated and enthusiastic team who bring a wide range of talents and expertise to the school and the children are well mannered and keen to learn.
History
The main building is over 100 years old. However, in 2014 we saw the completion of a substantial building project, which brought an additional five classrooms, some further working spaces and more toilets! This provides us with capacity for up to ten class bases and a school hall in the centre of the school. Outdoors we have playing areas with a combination of surfaces including a playground, a large arena with a soft surface, a trail area with an artificial grass surface and some outdoor classroom areas. We are also proud to be one of the few schools with a covered swimming pool. The children are taught to swim by a swimming teacher during the summer term.
Elm Grove opened in 1905 as 'Elm Grove Mixed and Infant Council School'. It became a First School in 1977. However, as part of the reorganisation amongst Worthing schools, September 2015 marked the beginning of 'Elm Grove Primary School'. As a result, our intake has reduced to 30 in Reception and, from September 2021, we became a one form entry primary school from Reception to Year 6, accomodating up to 210 pupils.
